Youngstown mayor submits $2.1M request to city council for new fire trucks

YOUNGSTOWN Youngstown Mayor Tito Brown announced in a news release on Wednesday that a request has been submitted for the purchase of two brand-new fire trucks.
Mayor Brown and Fire Chief Barry Finley announced that legislation has been submitted to the Youngstown City Council to authorize $2.1 million to be used in the purchase of the fire trucks.
The trucks would be used by the Youngstown Fire Department.
According to the release, the investment reflects the administration's commitment to modernize critical infrastructure and strengthen public safety for Youngstown residents.
The need for an updated fleet stems from a recent Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Feasibility Study, which identified improving the fire department's fleet as a key step toward strengthening emergency response.
This will be the second order for new trucks placed in recent years.
The first is described to be a request where the city used ARPA funds to purchase a new ladder truck in 2023 that will be delivered in October.
"Our residents deserve the peace of mind that when an emergency happens, our firefighters can continue to respond quickly and effectively," said Mayor Brown.
Brown continued," This investment is about more than equipment - it's an investment in the future of our city and ensuring that the people of Youngstown can continue to count on their fire department when it matters most. It's another step forward in our commitment to improving public safety and city services."
The new trucks would be used to replace older vehicles that have been in the Youngstown Fire Department fleet for over two decades, which the release states will "reduce costly repairs while giving firefighters the reliable tools they need to do their jobs."
"With most of our fleet logging nearly two decades of service, it is stretched thin. By putting these new trucks into service, we're improving public safety by giving our firefighters safer, more dependable equipment so they can focus on saving lives and property. This is a win for the entire city," said Chief Finley.
If the request is approved by the city council, the new trucks will be expected to be delivered in early 2026.
