SALEM  - The Salem Community Foundation is back again to host its fourth annual golf outing to support K-9 police units in the Columbiana area.

The money raised by the event directly supports the Salem, Columbiana and Lisbon K-9 units, but the higher-quality training equipment that they are able to acquire can be utilized by a larger pool of K-9 units in their training group.

"This keep us running. Our K-9 units are run strictly by donation, so there's no budgeting for it or anything like that. So with this money, it keeps our K-9 units operational, keeps our community safer and it keeps the dogs on the street," says Sergeant Michael Garber, a member of the Salem K-9 unit.

The event, hosted at the Salem Hills Golf Club, is sponsored by approximately 100 different people and organizations, with more than 30 of them donating over $500.

The event is held in a scramble format with a cannon start. This means each player works together with their team, selecting the best of each shot and playing from that point, and each team plays at the same time on different holes. This makes the game relatively casual and fosters a fun and cooperative environment
