A man was arrested after shots were fired during what Austintown Police described as a custody incident Sunday evening.

Township police officers were sent to the 5600 block of Baylor Drive after reports of shots being fired at 6:56 p.m.  Police found several spent cartridge casings in the road.

Witnesses described a suspect vehicle, a red Pontiac G6, which officers pulled over a few blocks from the shooting scene.

After reviewing surveillance video and speaking with witnesses, officers confirmed the vehicle they stopped was involved in the incident. Police found a handgun inside the car that they say matched the casings found at the scene.

A man was detained and later arrested. According to police, he was wearing the same clothes as the alleged shooter.

Felonious assault and firing into a habitation charges will be filed in Mahoning County Court on Monday. The suspect's name will be released at that time.

No injuries were reported.

"Due to the fast actions of APD patrol divisions and witnesses on the scene, there is no further danger to the public," said Detective Shawn Hevener.
