DUI checkpoint to be conducted in Lawrence County Labor Day weekend

NEW CASTLE, Pa. - New Castle PSP has announced it will be conducting a DUI checkpoint sometime during Labor Day Weekend.
The checkpoint will be conducted somewhere in Lawrence County sometime between Friday, August 29 and Monday, September 1.
This checkpoint will be conducted in conjunction with other DUI checkpoints throughout the Troop D area, which consists of Lawrence and Mercer Counties, as well as Beaver, Butler and Armstrong Counties.
Additionally, other roving and mobile enforcement details will take place to keep impaired drivers off the road.
The exact date, time and location of the checkpoint has not been announced yet.
A 1990 U.S. Supreme Court ruling requires that drivers be notified before sobriety checkpoints are conducted to avoid violating constitutional protections against illegal search and seizure. The ruling did not specify what constitutes adequate notification.
