YOUNGSTOWN Youngstown Police investigate reported robbery on Mahoning Avenue
Detectives are investigating a beating and robbery on Mahoning Avenue and Oak Hill Avenue in Youngstown on Monday evening.
Officers found the male victim just after 6 p.m. on the Mahoning Avenue bridge with cuts, bruises, and blood on his head.
According to the police report, the victim told officers he was walking across the Spring Commons Bridge near the WRTA bus station when he noticed three or four masked males behind him.
The group then reportedly ran up to him, struck him in the back of the head, and began to hit him. While hitting him, the suspects searched his pockets for valuables.
The victim said the only items he had were his phone and a black computer bag containing a jar of Vaseline. The suspects did not take his phone.
The victim was unable to identify his assailants but gave police a description of their clothing.
After the assault, the victim told police the suspects appeared to run toward a bus. However, he said he was disoriented from the multiple hits to the head and wasn't sure where they went.
The police report also notes another robbery involving a shooting that occurred a few streets away shortly afterward.
Officers were dispatched to a reported shooting and robbery on North Evanston Avenue after the victim's mother told police her son had been injured and was taken to the hospital.
Three 9mm spent shell casings were found at the scene and collected as evidence.
21 News has reached out to the police department for further information about both incidents and is still waiting for a response.
