Free Narcan kits available Saturday at over 20 Trumbull County locations

WARREN The Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention, or ASAP, will distribute free Narcan kits at more than two dozen locations across Trumbull County this Saturday, Aug. 30, for its third annual Overdose Awareness Day event.
ASAP hopes to distribute 1,500 Narcan kits, which are provided by the Trumbull Combined Health District. The event aims to provide residents with a crucial tool to combat opioid overdoses and raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl.
"Overdose Awareness Day allows us to not only distribute these life-saving kits throughout the community but to also raise awareness of fentanyl overdoses," said Corrie Darocha, ASAP Coalition Coordinator at the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board. "By providing education and resources, we can make an impact on overdose deaths in our community and most importantly save lives."
Narcan, the brand name for naloxone, is a medication designed to rapidly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. It works by blocking opioid receptors in the brain, which can restore normal breathing to a person whose breathing has slowed or stopped due to an overdose of opioids such as heroin, fentanyl, or prescription painkillers.
The medication is administered as a nasal spray, making it easy for bystanders and first responders to use in an emergency without special medical training.
