Plea deal reached for Youngstown man accused of forcing six women into prostitution

YOUNGSTOWN A Youngstown man accused of forcing at least six women into prostitution pleaded guilty to charges related to the crimes on Thursday.
Larry Burgess, 36, was charged in a 26-count indictment that alleged he compelled six women between the ages of 26 and 42 into prostitution. On Wednesday, Burgess pleaded guilty to six counts of compelling prostitution, all third-degree felonies.
As part of the plea deal, two counts of first-degree felony rape and several other drug and weapons charges were dismissed. The indictment had alleged that Burgess raped one of the women twice and caused serious physical harm to another by giving her fentanyl.
Burgess also pleaded guilty to one count of corrupting another with drugs, a second-degree felony, and one count of trafficking in cocaine, a fifth-degree felony.
A jury trial, which was set to begin on Sept. 29, was canceled by Judge Anthony Donofrio.
Burgess is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 16. As part of the agreement, the state agreed not to make a sentencing recommendation as part of the deal.
Burgess will be required to register as a Tier II sex offender for 25 years.
