LISBON The Sadie Van Fossan Pool in Lisbon has closed early, according to a Facebook post from Lisbon Mayor Peter Wilson.

The Sadie Van Fossan Pool acts as the community pool for the Village of Lisbon.

According to the post, the pool has closed early ahead of the planned end of the season due to several issues. The goal is to repair the pool and continue operations next year.

Described in the post are several issues, including:

  • The water pump has begun leaking
  • Welding on the filtration tank had started breaking
  • Leaks have gotten worse

Mayor Wilson says that the problems the pool is experiencing are normal, stating that the pool is more than 60 years old and that many of the parts are wearing out.

The pool, built in 1956, according to Wilson, was built due to a grant from Sadie Van Fossan and through a swimming pool levy.

One problem that the pool is experiencing is the welding on the filtration tank breaking. These breaks, according to Wilson, cannot be repaired due to how corroded the filtration tank is.

Wilson told 21 News that a new filtration tank could cost between $75,000 and $125,000. However, Wilson said that these figures could be conservative estimates.

Village officials are also searching for the locations of the leaks.

Wilson suggested that the leak may be coming from the east wall of the pool, which was constructed in 1956.

Funds are available through the Capital Expenditures Fund to help pay for a repair project, according to Wilson.

The Capital Expenditures Fund houses money that is reserved for projects with a lifespan of more than five years.

However, all funding and purchases need to be approved by the Lisbon Village Council first.

Wilson tells 21 News that he is planning to present the issue to the Lisbon Village Council during its September 9 and September 23 meetings.
