Labor Day rallies in Warren, Grove City call for workers' rights

WARREN Protesters in the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys marked Labor Day with rallies advocating for worker-focused policies.
In Warren, demonstrators gathered at the Trumbull County Courthouse Square to protest what organizers called attacks on working people. A news release for the event stated the rally called for protecting programs such as Medicaid and Social Security, investing in public schools, and providing healthcare and housing for all.
The event, titled "Workers Over Billionaires," was a continuation of a nationwide movement that began on May 1. Organizers noted that a core principle of the event was a commitment to nonviolent action.
In Grove City, Pennsylvania, a similar rally took place at Memorial Park. Participants were encouraged to bring signs that represented their beliefs.
Katherine Bailey, a co-host of the Grove City rally, said in a statement that citizens were "standing up with workers across the nation to uphold the Constitution, end executive overreach, and defend democracy." She added that it was the fifth rally organized by her group as part of a National Day of Action.
Both rallies were part of a nationwide coalition that organizers said included more than 2,000 events across the country.
