CANFIELD You may be one of those people who curse construction zones when you drive through one.  However, a wrong turn in a construction zone has paid off handsomely for a Mahoning County couple. A detour that led them to the Sheetz gas station on Route 224 and Raccoon Road in Canfield resulted in a $1 million Powerball win.

The couple, who have chosen to remain anonymous, told the Ohio Lottery that they were spreading out their ticket purchases at four different retailers Wednesday evening, a strategy they use when the Powerball jackpot grows. Their last stop was an unplanned one.

"She made a wrong turn and there was construction, so we had to go through the Sheetz parking lot," the husband said. They had never been to the location before, but they decided to stop and buy $10 worth of Powerball tickets.

The woman discovered the win on Thursday morning while her husband was still asleep.

"I scanned the ticket when I got up for work and saw $1 million, and I started screaming," she said. "I showed him on my phone and said, 'I think that's a million, right?' and he said, 'I think it is!'"

The auto-pick ticket matched five of the five white balls to win the $1 million prize. The winning numbers were 3-16-29-61-69.

The couple said the unexpected windfall will expedite their plans to move to a southern state, a dream they've been discussing for years.

"We might move. We've been talking about it for years, and it was still a few years away, but this expedited that plan," the husband said.

The winning ticket was sold at Sheetz No. 328, located at 4585 Boardman Canfield Rd. in Canfield.

The couple plans to play again, hoping to win the estimated $1.7 billion jackpot in Saturday's drawing.
