Tressel, Ginn to promote student fitness in Mahoning Valley

NILES Ohio Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel and former Ohio State football player Ted Ginn Jr. are scheduled to visit two Mahoning Valley schools on Friday to promote the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge, a statewide initiative for students.
The challenge encourages students in grades four through eight to form healthy habits in fitness, sleep, and nutrition over 90 days.
Ginn, who is serving as captain for the challenge, will join former YSU Penguin and OSU Buckeye football coach Tressel to host assemblies at Niles Middle School and Lowellville Local Schools.
The first event is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Niles Middle School, 411 Brown St. The second assembly will take place at noon at Lowellville Local Schools, 52 Rocket Place.
Students participating in the challenge will progress through bronze, silver, and gold levels by completing activities in physical activity, nutrition, and sleep. The challenge is designed for students to complete individually, but schools can also incorporate it into the school day.
Public, private, community, and homeschool students in Ohio can participate if their school has opted into the program.
