Couple spends 60th wedding anniversary giving back to Liberty Local Schools

LIBERTY A couple spent their 60th wedding anniversary in a unique way - spending the day giving back to Liberty Local Schools on Friday.
Barbara and Stanley Schwartz, pictured above, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Youngstown at the school where Barbara graduated from in 1961.
Stanley told 21 News more about how the couple met.
"We met at a wedding. For two years, we wrote letters back and forth, and she was at Ohio State and I was working. After two years, we got married at Squaw Creek County Club," said Stanley.
Alongside the pair were more than 70 other family members and friends who came to help participate in this "day of service".
"Barbara had two sisters, and it's their family and their kids and grandchildren. I had a brother, and it's his family and grandchildren. We have two children and four grandchildren," said Stanley, outlining just some of the group's volunteer members.
Liberty Local Schools and the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley welcomed Barbara, Stanley and their group of volunteers, according to a news release outlining the event.
"We are truly honored that the Schwartz family chose Liberty Local Schools as the place to celebrate such an important milestone," said Superintendent Brian Knight.
Knight continued," This act of service not only leaves a lasting impact on our schools but also shows our students the power of giving back to the community."
According to Barbara, this "day of service" has become a family tradition every decade.
"We've done this before on a previous anniversary that we went to a school, and everybody pitched in with whatever the school had jobs for us to do," said Barbara.
The family spent the day working across both school buildings, completing various improvement projects, such as installing an outdoor classroom and planting a commemorative tree.
