Warren City Schools kicks off 'Attend Today, Succeed Tomorrow' campaign

WARREN Students and administrators of Warren City Schools kicked off the "Attend Today, Succeed Tomorrow" campaign on Friday with a tailgate party.
The event, which featured bounce houses, DJs, a photobooth, food and more, saw about 500 students and their families before the Warren Harding football game.
According to a news release, the "Attend Today, Succeed Tomorrow" campaign slogan is part of the Attendance H.E.R.O program.
Every student who meets the district-wide monthly, quarterly or year-long standards for excellent attendance is designated an Attendance H.E.R.O., which stands for "Here, Everyday, Ready and On Time."
Students can earn the designation by missing no more than one day and by having no more than one tardy in a month, according to the release.
"The 'Attend Today, Succeed Tomorrow' slogan was selected because we know that success in general, and academic success in particular, starts with showing up," said Dante Capers, Associate Superintendent of Student Services for Warren City Schools.
Capers told 21 News that over 900 students within the district met the excellent attendance milestone during the 2024-2025 school year.
This means that those students were in class for 95% of the year.
Capers went on to say that having students in classrooms as much as possible can help them reach their full potential.
"Sometimes it creates some barriers to try and get them back on track. There is no substitute for that instruction that is happening right before that teacher every day, so we want to make sure that our students are there to take advantage of it, we want to keep them on track, we want to keep them growing academically so that they can be their best, successful selves," said Capers.
Capers also referenced studies that show that chronically absent students, meaning a student who misses 10% or more of the school year, are about 6.7 times less likely to read on grade level in the third grade.
