Committee searches for solutions to Downtown Youngstown parking issues
During a parking committee meeting, Youngstown councilmen Julius Oliver and Jimmy Hughes were presented with possible solutions to help tackle the parking issue downtown.
"We would strategically place signage every so many feet or so many spots with a QR code where customers could just come in and they could stop, they could take a picture of the QR code, takes them to a site, they put in their driver license number, they pay and they go on about their day," Robert Montgomery, Market President at Premium Parking in Northern Ohio.
Premium Parking aims to allow easier access to businesses and make parking much less of a hassle through their programs.
"Star spaces is a program that might cost just a little bit extra but it's reserved spots are right in front of the restaurants or the local businesses so people can have that option to pay a little bit extra to be right there or they can utilize the other platform to park wherever they'd like," Montgomery said.
There's also a way finding tool for people to be able to remember where they parked their cars.
If the city were to do business with Premium Parking, there's a citation aspect that would be enforced on every vehicle in violation.
"Any parking program that's gonna be successful has to have a citation side to it as well and it's not about writing that $65 ticket and making people mad, it's about getting people compliant in the areas where the businesses need it the most," Montgomery said.
Oliver said other companies will be brought in and assessed before any decision is made.
