Former Liverpool Township Police Chief sentenced on assault charge

LISBON A former Liverpool Township police chief was handed a jail sentence after pleading no contest Tuesday to a charge of first-degree misdemeanor assault in Columbiana County Municipal Court. The plea resulted from an agreement with prosecutors.
Judge Kelli Linger found Jayson Jackson guilty of the assault charge, which had been amended from an original domestic violence charge.
Judge Linger sentenced Jackson to 180 days in jail, suspending 160 days of the sentence, ordering Jackson to serve the remaining 20 days. Jackson received one day of credit for time already served and is scheduled to report to the county jail on Sept. 15.
In addition to the jail sentence, Jackson was placed on two years of intensive supervised probation. A post-conviction no-contact order was also filed, prohibiting him from contacting the victim.
Jackson was originally charged with domestic violence in December 2024. The investigating officer at the time reported that a woman at Jackson's home had a bloody nose and claimed she had been strangled and assaulted.
