Renovated Youngstown park reopens
City officials in Youngstown unveiled new improvements at Lynn Park in the Brownlee Woods neighborhood on the city's south side.
The park was reopened after almost a year of improvements including a new playground, pickleball court and outdoor workout equipment, as as well as a revamped basketball court.
Lynn Park was one of approximately a dozen parks that city council earmarked nearly $6 million for.
"Out of $82 million dollars, we spent $10 million dollars of the ARPA funds on parks. I have to give a big shoutout to city council," said Mayor Tito Brown.
Basia Admaczak, former seventh ward councilwoman was instrumental in ushering in the comprehensive plan. Adamzcak says when the city received those funds, she wanted to make sure they invested in something tangible that residents could actually see and use. Adamzcak says each ward received $2 million, including her ward. She says her ward's allocated funds went toward improvements at Lynn Park, as well as Ipes Field, which is undergoing improvements similar to the Walnut Grove in Canfield.
"Parks and quality of life is so important for a thriving city. This is one of dozens of park properties that are being improved and it's a beautiful thing," said Basia Adamczak, former seventh ward councilman.
When asked how the city plans to keep up Lynn Park, as well as the other public amenities, the mayor tells 21 news it's already been budgeted in.
"You invest in maintaining, keeping it up to date. It will help us with our summer employment program so we'll bring on more youth in our parks and recreation department so they'll have things to work on," Mayor Brown explained.
Lynn Park is among the first couple to be completed. Here is a look at the other projects being done around the city.
