YOUNGSTOWN Yet another high school has announced the cancelation of its football game against Ursuline High School Friday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Youngstown City School District confirmed with 21 News that Chaney High School's game against Ursuline scheduled for October 17 has been canceled.

The spokesperson says this decision was made "in the best interest of [the district's] scholars and [its] community."

Chaney is the latest of many schools to cancel its games against Ursuline following a lawsuit filed against the school and its football program accusing team members of hazing and sexual assault, as well as recording and distributing videos of the alleged incidents to other students and the community at large.

The suit also accuses head coach Dan Reardon and assistant coaches Tim McGlynn and Chris Syrianoudis of dismissing the allegations as "just boys being boys" and principal Matt Sammartino and assistant principal Margaret Damore of not properly investigating the allegations.

Coach Reardon has since been suspended, and McGlynn and Syrianoudis have both been placed on administrative leave; a move attorney Subodh Chandra says was not enough.

Additionally, a second lawsuit was filed earlier this week accusing the school of failing to properly investigate and discipline another football player for the alleged assault and sexual harassment of a female student.

Other game cancelations so far include Farrell, Warren G. Harding, Saint Vincent-Saint Mary and Austintown Fitch.

With Chaney's cancelation, the only games that have not been canceled yet are Walsh Jesuit High School and Cardinal Mooney High School.

Walsh Jesuit issued a statement to 21 News Friday afternoon saying the school is aware of the allegations and is currently evaluating its options regarding the game against Ursuline.

However, no final decision has been made yet and the game is still scheduled to take place as of this writing.
