BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP The trial of a Masury man charged with aggravated murder and abuse of a corpse for the shooting death of his sister in March has been postponed as his attorney pursues an insanity plea.

Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Sean J. O'Brien granted a defense motion to delay the trial for John Zanolli, 62, who was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Zanolli’s attorney, who has entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, has been granted a motion to have his client undergo a forensic evaluation of his competency to stand trial.

According to Brookfield police, the body of 65-year-old Janice Zanolli was found inside the sibling’s home on 3rd Street with a gunshot wound to the head.

Officers found her brother, John Zanolli, in the home with a gun, threatening suicide.

Following a half hour of negotiations with police, officers say they used a taser on Zanolli and removed the firearm from him.

Brookfield Police believe Janice Zanolli had been dead for three days before their confrontation with her brother.

Zanolli, who was indicted in March, remains in the county jail without bond. A new pretrial hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 12.
