Century-old Struthers building, former Los Gallos demolished

STRUTHERS - A century-old building in Struthers that has not housed a business in over 10 years has been demolished.
On Saturday morning, 21 News arrived to South Bridge Street where the McKinney Building once stood, and found the structure torn down to boards and debris.
The building once housed Los Gallos Mexican Restaurant and a popular nightclub called The Cellar.
The decision to tear it down came after an engineer’s report revealed serious safety concerns including a twisting foundation, electrical problems and a fire sparking when the lights were turned on.
Struthers Mayor Catherine Cercone Miller said the report also showed a large stormwater line under the building which needs attended to.
According to Miller, the plan is to turn the property into a parking lot. She hopes to preserve parts of the building including the eagle and "McKinney 1916" facade, to incorporate into the barrier of the parking lot.
