Boak & Sons providing work on new roof for future Idora Park Experience Museum in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN The Mahoning Valley Historical Society (MVHS) has started work on its recently purchased building at 250 E. Federal Street in Youngstown.
MVHS bought the former IBM building in late 2023 with plans to create the Idora Park Experience Museum.
The Historical Society is getting a brand new roof for the site thanks to Boak & Sons, Inc. According to the news release, the company is donating all of the labor and equipment for the roof replacement and providing all the materials needed at cost.
MVHS leadership said the gesture by Boak & Sons is much appreciated.
"Members of the Board, volunteers and staff of Mahoning Valley Historical Society greatly appreciate the concern and generosity of Sam Boak and his family, and all of the staff of Boak and Sons," MVHS Executive Director Bill Lawson said. "Giving back to the community is an important part of their business plan, and we at MVHS are fortunate to benefit from their philanthropy. Their gift to 150 Years: The Campaign for Mahoning Valley Historical Society is a reminder that ALL gifts—financial in-kind—are welcome and will help our organization reach the campaign goal."
Boak & Sons owner Sam Boak said he's honored to work with the Historical Society to help make the Idora Park Experience Museum a reality.
"The Youngstown community has been very supportive of Boak and Sons over the years, and we're happy to support the community with projects like this one," Boak said.
MVHS announced the purchase of the The Idora Park Experience, formerly owned by Jim and Toni Amey, in September 2024. The collection features items from Idora Park's nearly 100-year history including vintage rides, games and memorabilia.
The items were on display at the building next to the Amey's home in Canfield for about a decade.
