State Police seek witnesses to murder outside Farrell bar

FARRELL, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police have issued a call to anyone who may have witnessed a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday in Farrell.
Brandon D. Smith, 45, of West Middlesex, died after being shot outside Yank's Place, a bar on Idaho Street. The shooting occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m. Smith was taken to UPMC Horizon Shenango, where he was pronounced dead.
Mercer County Coroner John Libonati said Smith died from a gunshot wound to the chest and ruled the death a homicide.
Farrell police requested state police assistance with the investigation. A State Police news release states a large crowd was present at the time of the shooting, and investigators believe there are more witnesses to the incident.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the shooting, including what led to the incident or if any suspects have been identified.
