WARREN Ohio Department of Health officials are visiting Insight Hospital & Medical Center Trumbull on Tuesday as the facility prepares to reopen after a six-month closure. The visit comes as the hospital looks to restore operations in phases, beginning with a 24-7 emergency department and both inpatient and outpatient services.

A statement from Insight, released Friday, announced the hospital's plan to reopen following the health department's review. The company expressed gratitude for the cooperation that led to this point, noting that employees, including doctors, nurses, and staff, are being contacted about their potential return. While no official date for reopening was provided, a source close to the matter said they hope to have some employees back to work by Wednesday.

The closure has left many employees in a state of uncertainty. A letter was sent to furloughed employees of the hospital's union, the Service Employees International Union 1199, surveying their interest in returning. Chrissy Lewis, a coordinator for the union, said she had been in contact with Insight frequently to get information about the reopening.

"I wasn't sure we were going to get to this point, so the fact that we are at this now, and looking at potential starting dates, and hopefully the whole hospital opening very soon is a very positive thing," Lewis said. "We’re all a little gun-shy. We would be crazy not to be given everything that we’ve been through over the last six months, and the way the closing happened, it kind of does leave a sour taste in your mouth."

Warren Mayor Doug Franklin offered a statement of optimism regarding the hospital’s future. "Our community deserves strong, reliable care—I’m praying this new chapter lives up to the promise," he said. "I'd like to thank the insight representatives as well as the union leadership for working together and keeping me informed throughout the process."

Insight took over the hospital in the wake of a bankruptcy declared by former owner Steward Health.
