Full Spectrum Community Outreach to open emergency housing shelter for unhoused adult LGBTQ+

Editor's note: This story has been revised to reflect that the planned housing is for adults.
YOUNGSTOWN Full Spectrum Community Outreach has announced plans to open an emergency housing shelter for unhoused LGBTQ+ adults.
In 2023, Full Spectrum purchased the Hope House Visitation Center on Earle Avenue in Youngstown with the vision of creating a 60-day transitional shelter for unhoused LGBTQ+ adults.
The non-profit said in a statement released Tuesday that opening that shelter remains its long-term goal, but the urgent need for housing in the LGBTQ+ community has caused it to shift its immediate focus.
Full Spectrum plans to open a one-to-two-day emergency housing shelter alongside its 60-day shelter.
"This phased approach will allow us to begin serving clients sooner, with plans to expand as resources grow," the statement reads.
With this new emergency shelter, clients will have access to case management, referrals to vital statistics, classes and support groups and mental health counseling and therapy, courtesy of Natura Behavioral Health.
Full Spectrum aims to have the shelter open by early 2026. Admission will be by referral only.
"This project represents one of the most impactful steps Full Spectrum has ever taken, and we believe it will be a true game-changer for the Mahoning Valley," the statement reads.
