STRUTHERS & POLAND - Aqua Ohio is set to begin a $3 million water main replacement project in the City of Struthers, as well as Poland Village and Township.

The project area includes Lyon Boulevard, Beechwood Drive, Renwick Drive and Poland-Struthers Road (Route 616) from Beechwood Drive to Poland Avenue.

The project will see crews replacing and upsizing six-inch and eight-inch diameter cast iron pipe with new eight-inch, 12-inch and 16-inch ductile iron pipe, which  is stronger and more corrosion-resistant, according to a press release from Aqua.

New service lines will be installed for 177 Aqua Ohio customers, and any lead or galvanized customer-owned service lines will be offered to be replaced at no direct cost to the customer.

Aqua Ohio Area Manager Jennifer Johnson is quoted in the release saying the mains being replaced have been the source of several leaks in the past, and are known to include lead service lines.

"Replacing aging mains and removing lead service lines is part of Aqua's ongoing commitment to invest in the water system to maintain compliance and reliability of service," Johnson said.

Customers' water service is not expected to be interrupted during this project, except for short-term disconnections towards the end of the project as properties are connected to new mains. Impacted residents will be notified in advance of these disruptions.

Drivers are asked to use extra caution and be mindful of traffic flaggers and work zone signage.
