Autism Society of the Mahoning Valley reacts to claims of link between Tylenol and Autism

YOUNGSTOWN The Autism Society of the Mahoning Valley (ASMV) is weighing in following claims of a link between Tylenol and Autism from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
ASMV released a statement expressing "deep concern" with these claims, which were brought forth by President Donald Trump and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Director Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Monday afternoon.
"We know that when public conversations arise about the causes of Autism, it can stir up many emotions, especially for families who have spent years seeking answers, compassion and understanding," the statement reads.
The statement goes on to say that decades of research on Autism shows that the disorder is influenced by a combination of genetic, biological and environmental factors, that there is no singular cause and that the Autism is not the result of something a parent did or didn't do.
ASMV goes on to quote the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, which says Autism likely results from many different genetic variations interacting with environmental factors during critical points of brain development.
"At ASMV, we support this evidence-based perspective and remain committed to advancing rigorous, ethical research that reflects the diversity of the Autism spectrum and the lived experiences of Autistic people in the Mahoning Valley and beyond," the statement reads.
