WFMJ's Sydney Canty recognized during Youngstown Press Club Hall of Fame induction ceremony

YOUNGSTOWN The Youngstown Press Club held its 5th annual Hall of Fame and Awards dinner on Wednesday, featuring five inductees and eight award winners.
Among those inducted into the Hall of Fame were Paul Jagnow and Tony Paglia.
Paul Jagnow, inducted posthumously, was a staffer for the Vindicator for more than 46 years.
Jagnow was born in 1940 in Ravenna.
After graduating from Ravenna High School in 1958, he attended Youngstown State University, where he began serving as the chief photographer and later city editor at The Jambar.
At the same time, Jagnow worked nights and weekends for the Vindicator, compiling box scores for the sports pages and doing other odd jobs.
He joined the Vindicator staff in 1960 and went on to serve as a reporter, assistant state editor, city desk rewrite man, assistant city editor, and city editor before being named managing editor-news in 1986.
Jagnow later went on to marry Vindicator publisher Betty Brown in 1986 and would retire in 2006. He died in 2017, according to the dinner program.
Tony Paglia was also inducted into the Hall of Fame during Wednesday's dinner.
Paglia spent more than four decades as a reporter, editor, and public affairs executive before retiring in 2014.
Paglia's first job was as a reporter and political writer for the Sharon Herald. He also spent four years as press secretary for U.S. Representative Joseph Vigorito.
Paglia then went on to spend 30 years working as a reporter, bureau chief, Trumbull County Editor, and Senior Regional Editor at the Vindicator, spending the final 19 years supervising coverage of the five-county area of the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys.
Paglia currently serves at the President-Elect of the Youngstown Press Club and is on the Board of Directors of the St. John XXIII Nursing Home in Hermitage, Pennsylvania, where he and his wife reside.
One of 21 News' own was honored during the dinner.
Sydney Canty received the "Excellence in Media Award".
Canty, a native of Detroit, Michigan, joined 21 News in 2020 and currently serves as a news anchor and reporter. She got her start shooting news stories in her hometown using her cell phone.
According to the dinner program, during her time in the Mahoning Valley, Canty has made connections and acquired exclusive interviews. Additionally, she shoots, writes, and edits content for several newscasts.
Canty has received several honors for her work, including Emmy nominations and the Mahoning Valley Young Professionals' 25 under 35 award.
Before earning her bachelor's degree in 2019 for journalism, Canty interned at WDET Radio in Detroit.
