Poland Township named 5th safest community in Ohio by Travel Safe
POLAND A township in Mahoning County has made the top 10 list of safest communities in Ohio.
Poland Township was the only local community to be included in the Travel Safe - Abroad list.
The Travel Safe team described Poland Township as a bedroom community that only contains small businesses and homes.
The list shows Poland Township's property crime rate at 2.6 and the violent crime rate at 0.3.
Both of those numbers are below the national and state average.
"Our crime stats are down in pretty much every category," Police Chief Greg Wilson said. "The great thing about Poland Township is that our community service is up. We take great pride in working with our community."
Chief Wilson credits many things to the designation, including the department's social media presence and utilizing apps where they can be in direct communication with homeowners.
The Travel Safe list ranks the City of Powell as the safest place in Ohio.
Northeast Ohio was well represented in the list with Seven Hills, Brecksville, Rocky River, Sagamore Hills, Olmsted Township, Avon Lake and Broadview Heights making the top 10.
