Hillshire Brands recalls 58 million pounds of corn dogs, sausage on a stick

WASHINGTON - 58,000,000 pounds of corn dog and sausage on a stick products due to possible contamination with pieces of wood, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
The agency stated that the wood may be embedded in the batter of the recalled products. The problem was discovered after the company received several complaints, including five that involved injuries. Hillshire Brands determined that the wooden sticks entered the production process before the product was battered.
The recall involves corn dogs and sausage on a stick packaged between March 17, 2025, and September 26, 2025. The recalled items bear the establishment number “EST-582” or “P-894” printed on the packaging.
The affected products were distributed for commercial sale online and shipped to retail and food service locations nationwide. They were also sold to school districts and Department of Defense facilities across the country.
FSIS noted that although the products were distributed to schools, the sales were commercial and not part of the food provided by the USDA for the National School Lunch Program.
A variety of brands and products are included in the recall. The list of recalled items includes various
Jimmy Dean products include Cinnamon French Toast Sausage on a Stick, Original Pancake & Turkey Sausage on a Stick, and several versions of Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick.
The recall also covers numerous State Fair products, including Classic Corn Dogs, Turkey Corn Dogs, Beef Hot Dogs Wrapped in a Honey-Sweetened Batter, and Fiesta Corn Dogs.
Additionally, an unbranded food service item, Batter Wrapped Franks on a Stick with Turkey and Chicken, Pork, Beef added, is on the list.
FSIS is concerned that some of the recalled products may remain in refrigerators and freezers held by consumers, schools, and other institutions.
Customers, schools, and institutions that have purchased these items should not eat them. The products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS will conduct routine recall effectiveness checks to confirm that the recalling firm notifies its customers and takes steps to ensure the product is no longer available to consumers. Retail distribution lists will be posted on the FSIS website as they become available.Individuals who have questions about the recall can contact Christina Self, The Hillshire Brands Company Associate Director of Customer Care, at 888-747-7611.
