House fire, smoky hotel, keep Mercer County firefighters busy

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. - Firefighters from the Farrell Fire Department and Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department were called to two separate incidents late Saturday in Mercer County, helping the West Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department with a house fire after first being called to smoke spreading in a hotel.
Just before 8 p.m. Saturday, the Farrell Fire Department was dispatched to assist the Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department with an incident at the Park Inn by Radisson in Shenango Township. A problem with an overheated elevator motor created smoke in the hotel.
Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department personnel, along with units from Farrell, East End Fire Department, and others, responded to call. Crews cleared the smoke, and all units were back in service in about 45 minutes.
Later that night, the Farrell Fire Department and Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched again, this time for a house fire on Wheatland Road in West Middlesex Borough at 9:41 p.m.
The Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department and City of Sharon Fire Department, were dispatched on the second alarm structure fire. Crews assisted with fire suppression, search, and ventilation.
The Farrell Fire Department also sent an engine to the Wheatland Road fire. Crews assisted in extinguishing the fire, as well as ventilation. Off-duty personnel manned the Farrell station while the engine was out of the city, ensuring coverage for residents.
The fire was under control by 10:14 p.m., and all units were back in service after about an hour.
