VIDEO: Robert Moore walks after murder charge dropped in years-long Mahoning Co. cold case
MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - The continuing case against Robert Moore, who has been on trial every year since 2021 for a cold case disappearance of 16-year-old Glenna Jean White in 2009, had charges dropped Monday.
At 9:47 a.m., prosecutors from the attorney general's office filed a motion to dismiss the murder charge against him.
Moore walked out of the Mahoning County Jail around 11 am Monday, where 21 News caught him leaving the jail a free man.
The charges were dismissed without prejudice, meaning prosecutors can refile charges at a later date if they decide to.
In early September, a key piece of evidence in their case is Moore's involuntary manslaughter conviction from 1992, which involved the death of another woman.
The prosecution argued that the similarity between that case and White's disappearance cannot be coincidental.
However, their request to use this information in the current case was rejected by Judge Maureen Sweeney during a hearing on September 9.
Sweeney stated that allowing a jury to decide guilt or innocence based solely on his "propensity to commit a crime" would not ensure a fair trial.
Glenna White, who was 16 years old at the time, went missing in 2009.
Since her body has never been found, prosecutors need to convince a jury not only that Moore is responsible, but also that White is definitely deceased.
The prosecutors stated in the filing: "Based upon the current state of the evidence in this matter additional investigatory work is necessary so that this matter could proceed to trial."
Moore faced a sentence of 25 years to life for the alleged murder of White.
