40-count indictment charges two for alleged Valley vehicle break-in spree

YOUNGSTOWN Two Youngstown men are accused of carrying out a five-month-long break-in spree, allegedly taking cash, jewelry, credit cards, and other valuables from vehicles in several Valley communities.
A Mahoning County grand jury indicted Timothy Esposito, 51, and Samuel Esposito, 36, on 40 felony charges, the most serious of which is engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, a second-degree felony in Ohio.
The remaining charges include multiple counts of grand theft and burglary. The charges allege that the Espositos were involved in thefts that occurred in Boardman, Beaver Township, and other Mahoning County communities from March through July.
The two are accused of taking cash, jewelry, credit cards, gift cards, checkbooks, purses, wallets, backpacks, headphones, iPods, a gun, ammunition, and a knife from cars and trucks.
The Grand Theft charges are felonies of the fourth degree, which state law sets aside for theft offenses when the property value is between $7,500 and $150,000.
The indictment notes that both men had been convicted of felony theft within the previous three years, which enhanced the degree of the current theft charges. The prior convictions were from April 2024, also in Mahoning County.
The court documents also show multiple third-degree felony Burglary counts, and a count of Breaking and Entering, a fifth-degree felony. Under the Ohio Revised Code, a second-degree felony, such as the corrupt activity charge, carries a potential prison sentence of up to eight years, while third-degree felonies are punishable with sentences from nine to 36 months.
Timothy Esposito has been in the Mahoning County Jail since his arrest in late July.
Both men will be scheduled to appear in court to answer to the charges.
