Indictment: OVI suspect allegedly struck Kinsman man retrieving mail

WARREN An Ashtabula County man was indicted in Trumbull County this week on charges stemming from what authorities say was an impaired driving crash that seriously injured a Kinsman Township man as he was out collecting his mail.
Arne Siekkinen, 59, of Williamsfield, faces a felony charge of aggravated vehicular assault, as well as a misdemeanor OVI charge in connection with the Feb. 5 collision at Williamsfield Kinsman Road, south of Webb West Road in Kinsman Township.
According to the crash report, Siekkinen was driving northbound after 8 p.m. when his Chevy Impala struck a 61-year-old man who was retrieving mail from a roadside mailbox in front of his house. The Impala then drove off the road and struck the victim’s parked pickup truck and a mailbox.
Gilmore suffered a serious injury and was transported by Kinsman EMS to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown.
The indictment was filed after an Ohio State Highway Patrol investigation indicated alcohol was a suspected factor in the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Siekkinen’s blood alcohol level at the time was .109%. Under Ohio law, a driver with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher is considered intoxicated.
Siekkinen is scheduled for arraignment on Oct. 7 in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
