Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office opposes parole of man convicted of raping juveniles

WARREN The Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office has penned a letter opposing the parole of a man convicted of raping multiple juveniles back in 2013.
Seventy-two-year-old Charles Bland is serving a prison sentence of 10 years to life on four counts of rape, two counts of gross sexual imposition, one count of illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material or performance and 25 counts of pandering obscenity involving minors.
Prosecutors say Bland falsely claimed to be a professor, philosopher, doctor, scientist and astronomer while living in a trailer park in Trumbull County, even going as far as to print counterfeit degrees and diplomas to hang on his wall.
Using these fake credentials, Bland lured unsuspecting children into his mobile home under the guise of "tutoring" them. Bland would instead force these victims to engage in various sexual acts, with victims being as young as 14 years old.
Additionally, a search of Bland's mobile home revealed a nude image of a six-year-old child personally taken by Bland.
"In my opinion, it would be unconscionable to release a pedophile and child predator such as Charles Michael Bland back into society. ... Unfortunately, there is only one solution to protect other children from this offender - keep him locked up until the expiration of his sentence. Charles Michael Bland should die in prison," wrote Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Gabe Wildman.
Bland is scheduled for a parole hearing in October of 2025.
