What started as a simple project during the pandemic has quickly turned into a "spook-tacular" for the community to enjoy.

Local actor Tyler Hanes began carving pumpkins for his home display in 2020.

"It was a little COVID project, I guess you would say, and that year it started with 200 pumpkins," said Hanes, who had no idea that this simple gesture to bring joy to nearby residents would blossom into hundreds of people visiting his home-pumpkin display each October.

Hanes used to carve pumpkins with his mom, but at one point, he grew tired of putting in hard, creative work only to see his designs rot away just hours after completion. The talented carver stumbled upon foam pumpkins, which he could produce in mass quantities. Due to the demand, home displays were no longer an option; Hanes needed something bigger.

All 894 of his pumpkins are on display at Angiuli's Farm Market in Canfield, which offered Tyler the indoor space to house a display of that size, as well as parking for the large crowds it draws. Visitors can stroll through the greenhouses and explore a variety of styles, sizes, and designs of foam pumpkins. From popular movie characters to iconic historical landmarks. Angiuli answered the call, helping the free family event meet the rising demand.

"We came back and it's bigger and better this year, and evolved so much, and he put so much hard work into it and it's just fantastic," said Aubrey Vernon, who tells 21 News she used to attend the pumpkin walk when it was at Tyler's home.

The best part is that the month-long pumpkin walk raises money through donations, which benefit local organizations. This year, Hanes says they polled the community on Facebook to see which organizations they would like to see proceeds go to.

"It's going to Diva Donations, All About the Pawz, and Goodness Grows," Hanes added.

The Pumpkin Walk is open Thursday to Sunday, through October 26. More than $2,000 has been raised through the first weekend.
