Former executive sports marketing agent Sonny Vaccaro was the guest speaker at the Curbstone Coaches weekly luncheon.

The 86 year old now lives in California and played a key role in Michael Jordan signing his first sneaker deal with Nike.

"I never saw him live until Nike invited me to meet with some young people," said Vaccaro, adding he saw on television Jordan hit the game winning shot against Georgetown in 1982

Jordan and Vaccaro spent 9 years together doing everything recalled Vaccaro.

"Michael changed the world of marketing with that Nike logo. He has done more for shoe company agreements than any other athlete," said Vaccaro.

Vaccaro helped create the Dapper Dan Roundball Classic in Pittsburgh which was the first national high school basketball all star game.

The 1958 Youngstown State graduate credits his connections with Dike Beede and Dom Rosselli has his stepping stone to a prosperous career.

"If I don't go to Youngstown State and make the connections and get involved with basketball, there's no Michael Jordan, that's for sure."

Vaccaro is scheduled to speak to the YSU Basketball team Tuesday,
