CANFIELD An instructor with the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center (MCCTC) has been named "Adult Educator of the Year" for Ohio's Northeast Region.

The award, presented by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and the Ohio Department of Higher Education, went to Dom Fonce, pictured above.

According to a news release, the aim of the award is to recognize exceptional leadership and dedication to advancing adult education across the state.

Fonce is planned to be formally honored at the upcoming Ohio Association for Adult and Continuing Education (OAACE) Conference in Columbus, Ohio, on October 23 and October 24.

"The success of our programming is a testament to our students, who are extremely motivated to climb the economic and educational ladders, and to our facility, who deeply want to see our students succeed," said Fonce.

According to the release, the Adult Diploma Program saw a significant increase in graduates under Fonce's leadership.

From 2019 to 2023, the program graduated a total of 14 students.

However, from 2024 to 2025, 47 students graduated from the program.

The Adult Diploma Program is aimed at adults who are 18-years-old or older seeking job training or alternate pathways.
