YOUNGSTOWN The investigation continues into a bank robbery that occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Youngstown.

Dispatchers got a phone call shortly after noon that the Huntington Bank branch on Market Street, near Vermont Avenue, had been robbed.

A bank employee told police that a man in his 40s entered the bank and waited in line. Once at the teller station, the suspect demanded all $100 and $50 bills. The suspect, who did not appear to be armed, then fled in an unknown direction.

The bank was placed on lockdown until authorities arrived. Youngstown Police detectives, the YPD Crime Lab, and the FBI took control of the investigation.

A bank spokesperson confirmed the robbery and stated that no one was injured. The branch temporarily closed following the incident, but has since reopened.

Police have interviewed witnesses, but no arrests have been made.

An inquiry to the Federal Bureau of Investigation received an automatic reply citing a lapse in appropriations due to a government shutdown.

A statement from the FBI Cleveland Office of Public Affairs noted that the Department of Justice’s operations are currently focused on national security, violations of federal law, and essential public safety functions.

The statement concluded that media inquiries outside of these functions would be considered when the lapse in appropriations ends.
