YOUNGSTOWN A Youngstown man is being held in the Mahoning County Jail as federal authorities work to transfer him to Florida, where he faces charges in connection with a child pornography investigation.

Twenty-six-year-old Ronald Newman was arrested Monday and is being held without bond on federal charges from an indictment filed in the Northern District of Florida.

An indictment filed in Gainesville, Florida, on Aug. 26 charges Newman with three counts, in connection with the production of images or videos of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct and having the material transported across state lines.

Authorities say the alleged crimes took place in Florida on March 23, 24, and 28 of this year. The indictment does not indicate the age of the alleged victim or victims.

A federal arrest warrant was filed in the U.S. District Court in Youngstown on Tuesday.

A public defender was appointed to represent Newman when he appeared for an initial hearing before Magistrate Judge Carmen Henderson on Tuesday.

The Florida indictment also includes a criminal forfeiture specification, allowing the government to confiscate any property and proceeds tied to the alleged offenses.
