Warren council votes unanimously to reopen Dana street
Wednesday night, residents gathered in council chambers to voice their opinions over reopening Dana street in Warren.
Eight years the street's been shut down to accommodate Auto Parkit business operations but some residents and council members said no more.
"The people have wanted this and i think it's probably a good idea," Michael Shrodek, Warren resident said.
"The Auto Parkit who wanted it closed, we wish him a lot of success. We want to see that, we've expressed that from the very beginning but I don't think having the road closed will prohibit him from being successful," Diane Manofsky, Warren resident said.
While others including some council members said it should remain closed at least until road work on the street is complete.
"'I would've liked for it to stay closed until construction is finished," Councilwoman at Large Helen Rucker said.
"Opening Dana street right now is a big mistake as far as I'm concerned. I wanna see it open, but now is not the time. They need to let things flow out. Now they're gonna open the street, only to have to close it again. What's that for," Paul Yanucci, Warren resident said.
Councilman Ron White said he'd like to give Auto Parkit owner Christopher Alan another 90 days and believes he's going to be doing something to bring jobs to the area. He initially wanted to vote to keep the street closed.
However, the vote to open Dana street was unanimous with all nine council members giving it a thumbs up.
"It's important that we all stood together, you know, we made the decision together, however this was gonna happen," Rucker said. "I just wanted to make people know that it's not over because that road is going to be closed again," she said.
Rucker adds, construction will last more than a hundred days and they don't know a specific time frame for when Dana street will officially be open verses when they'll have to close it back down again for construction to begin.
