51st Annual Youngstown Peace Race to take place Sunday

YOUNGSTOWN The 51st Annual Youngstown Peace Race is set to take place Sunday, October 12. Here's everything you need to know.
The event consists of a two-mile walk/run, a 10k run, a 25k run and a 200-meter kids fun run for kids age 10 and under. A virtual option is also available.
The 25k run kicks off at 8:30 a.m. near the square in downtown Youngstown. The race will begin with a loop of downtown followed by a run through Mill Creek Park, including a loop around Lake Newport. Runners will return to downtown Youngstown to finish the race.
The kids fun run starts next at 9 a.m. and will take runners through Federal Plaza in downtown Youngstown. There is no cost to register for the fun run.
The two-mile run/walk is next and kicks off at Federal Plaza in downtown Youngstown. This race will begin and end at Federal Plaza. Registration is $25.
Finally, the 10k run kicks off at 10 a.m. at Kirkmere Elementary School at the corner of Schenley Avenue and Kirk Road on Youngstown's west side. The race will finish at Federal Plaza in downtown Youngstown.
Online registration is closed, but you can still register for any of the races in person at the Eastwood Mall Center between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday, or at Second Sole in Boardman between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The Peace Race will result in some road closures in Mill Creek Park. The following roads will be closed to pedestrians between 6 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.:
- West Glacier Drive
- West Park Drive
- West Cohasset Drive
- High Drive
- Valley Drive
- East Park Drive
- Chestnut Hill Drive
- West Newport Drive
- Old Mill Drive
- East Newport Drive
- Kreider's Entrance
- Lanterman's Mill.
Access to Fellows Riverside Gardens will still be available, but only through McKinley Avenue. The Ford Nature Center will not be accessible via Old Furnace Road, but all other routes to the Ford Nature Center will remain open.
