Customers warned not to use bed rails sold at Walmart, Amazon after woman dies from entrapment

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning customers not to use bed rails sold at online retailers such as Walmart and Amazon due to a potential entrapment and asphyxiation hazard.
The CPSC is warning the public against four models of OasisSpace portable bed rails sold online by Amazon and Walmart, as well as OasisSpace's website due to an entrapment hazard, which poses a risk of serious injury or even death.
The CPSC says an 81-year-old woman died in her home in 2023 after she became trapped between the bed rail and her mattress.
The CPSC has issued a notice of violation to Gold Kernal, LLC, who manufactured the bed rails because they failed to meet safety requirements. Despite this, Gold Kernal has not agreed to recall the rails or offer any remedy to customers at this time.
This warning applies to bed rails with the following model numbers and dimensions:
- Model Number: F042, Dimensions: Adjustable height from about 28.5 inches to 42 inches high and 17 inches wide
- Model Number: F127, Dimensions: Adjustable height from about 12 inches to 18 inches high and 13 inches wide
- Model Number: G132, Dimensions: Adjustable height from about 18 to 22 inches high and 13 inches wide
- Model Number: G286, Dimensions: About 16 inches high and 38 inches wide
About 86,100 bed rails were sold between July of 2019 and February of 2025 for $30 to $108 apiece. The products were also found to be sold by third-party sellers on sites like eBay.
The CPSC is warning customers to stop using the bed rails regardless of their manufacturing date and instead throw them away.
