Frozen spinach recalled due to possible Listeria contamination
A brand of frozen spinach is being recalled due to the possibility of Listeria contamination, according to an announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Sno Pac Food of Caledonia, Minnesota, is recalling Del Mar 35-pound bulk organic frozen spinach and Sno Pac 10-ounce organic frozen cut spinach due to the potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.
The recalled product was distributed nationwide in retail stores and through other distributors.
The product comes in a 35-pound box with the following lot codes and an expiration date of January 7, 2027:
- 250107A
- 250107B
- 250107C
- 250107D
- 2501071
- 2501073
Additionally, the recall affects 10-ounce frozen spinach products with the following lot codes and "best by" dates:
- SPM1.190.5 with a "best by" date of July 9, 2027
- SPC1.160.5 with a "best by" date of June 9, 2027
- SPC2.160.5 with a "best by" date of June 9, 2027
- SPM1.097.5 with a "best by" date of April 7, 2027
L. monocytogenes could cause serious or fatal infections among certain populations, including young children, the elderly and others with weakened immune systems.
Some symptoms of an infection that's caused by L. monocytogenes can include:
- High fever
- Severe headaches
- Stiffness
- Nausea
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
Additionally, a Listeria infection could cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall to date, according to the recall announcement.
The production of the frozen spinach has been suspended while the company continues to investigate the source of the possible contamination.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled product are encouraged to dispose of the frozen spinach or return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
