The Ohio Attorney General's Office's Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) has issued its report on the officer-involved shooting that left one man dead in 2024.

The report indicates that the actions of the police officer who shot and killed Shane Linderman, 50, during an incident in September of 2024 were justified, and that the office would be closing the matter.

Additionally, the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office will not be presenting the case to the Mahoning County Grand Jury for consideration, according to a letter from Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro addressed to Youngstown Police Chief Carl Davis.

The case and investigation in question refers to an incident on September 10, 2024, where officers were called to the Dollar General in the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue in Youngstown for a fight with a knife.

The report outlines that while officers were en route, dispatch advised them that a male on scene had slit his own throat and the throat of a female.

When officers arrived on the scene, a female was discovered lying on the ground with a severe stab wound, seriously injured. Linderman was found kneeling over the woman.

One officer called out to Linderman to get off the female and to show his hands. However, Linderman did not comply and instead began "slashing" with the unknown item in his hand.

Officers were advised by one of the Dollar General employees that Linderman still had a knife and a boxcutter.

Linderman was then reported to have rushed at one of the officers on scene, which then forced that officer to fire his weapon at Linderman in order to save himself and others. Linderman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female victim was then taken to the hospital, where she was listed, at that time, in critical condition.

Officers involved in the shooting at the time were placed on paid administrative leave per department policy.

The officer involved in the shooting was not identified in the report.
