Wellsville man sentenced for threatening police shootout

WELLSVILLE, Ohio - A Wellsville man who pleaded guilty to threatening a shootout with police officers has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in a federal prison.
Steven Wright, 45, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Bridget Meehan Brennan on Tuesday. The sentence also includes a three-year term of supervised release and a special assessment of $100.
Wright was indicted on April 2 on one count of transmitting a threatening interstate communication.
The indictment stated that on Feb. 18, Wright threatened "to get in a shootout with police officers".
The threats were made on Facebook videos targeting law enforcement officers, judicial officials, and others in the community.
Court documents indicated the threats included detailed plans for a shootout with local police and language advising officers to "make peace with God".
Wright entered a guilty plea on July 9.
The court waived a fine and ordered Wright to receive credit for any time served on the offense.
