MASURY, Ohio - Aqua Ohio has announced plans to begin a $1.3 million water main replacement project in Masury.

Work is expected to begin this week and will involve replacing and upsizing existing two-inch and four-inch cast iron, polyvinyl chloride, and galvanized pipes with new four-inch high-density polyethylene pipes and eight-inch ductile iron pipes, which are stronger and more corrosion-resistant.

The new, larger mains will improve transmission capacity and reliability of service.

"These mains have been the source of several leaks in the past and have reached the end of their useful life. Replacing aging mains is part of Aqua's ongoing commitment to invest in the water system to maintain compliance and reliability of service," said Aqua Ohio Area Manager Jennifer Johnson.

Additionally, work will include the installation of eight new hydrants to improve fire protection and 13 new valves to isolate sections of main for future maintenance and repairs.

New Aqua-owned service lines will be installed for 67 customers. The project area includes Grover Street, Owsley Street, Lucy Street, Roberts Street and Hill Street.

Water service is not expected to be disrupted during the construction period except for short-term disconnections towards the end of the project. Impacted residents will be notified about the interruptions ahead of time.

Drivers are asked to exercise caution and be mindful of traffic flaggers and work zone signage.
