Warren City Schools introduces mobile STEM lab

WARREN The Warren City School District introduced its brand-new Mobile STEM Lab before its Board of Education meeting Tuesday evening.
The mobile lab offers hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and travels across all five buildings in the school district.
Some examples of the STEM education experience the mobile lab offers include a 3D printing far, a dedicated instructional area with a 55-inch Smart Panel and nine computer work stations, including a wheelchair-accessible one to ensure inclusivity for all students.
Lessons and activities are designed to connect learning to real-world applications, introducing students to potential career pathways in the STEM field.
Warren City Schools Superintendent Steve Chiaro tells 21 News the mobile lab started out as a vision for the district a few years ago. Since then, the district spent time planning, organizing and working to get the funds to make that vision a reality.
"We believed this was the next step for our students and the work that we're doing. We have a lot of creative and innovative things that we're doing in our classrooms in our K-8s and our high school. We thought this was the next best thing," Chiaro said.
Chiaro added that the mobile STEM lab is the first of its kind for the area.
"It's something that nobody else has in our region from the lake to the river and most of Ohio. We don't know of another district that has a mobile STEM lab that can go around and meet our students where they are at any given time," Chiaro said.
Chiaro tells 21 News he hopes to have the mobile lab open to students by the end of October or the beginning of November.
