BOARDMAN We now know why there was a large police response to a neighborhood in Boardman on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a police report, officers were called to investigate an assault and a person with a gun on the 3900 block of Hopkins Road shortly before 3 p.m.

The initial 911 call, made by the man later identified as the suspect, reported "a person with a gun on the front porch" before the caller hung up. Due to limited information, BPD units rushed to the address.

A woman told officers that her ex-boyfriend, who was inside the home, had "pulled a gun" on her brother.  Police ordered the ex-boyfriend to come out.

The ex-boyfriend told police that the woman and her brother arrived to collect property. A fight began in the front yard when the ex-boyfriend allegedly attempted to close a door on the brother, who had placed his foot in the doorway.

The brother allegedly said he was "getting my strap," went inside, and came out with a handgun behind his back. The brother then left the property. The ex-boyfriend told police he then sat on his porch with his handgun next to him and stated he never "pulled" or "flashed" the weapon.

The woman confirmed that a "fist fight broke out" between the men. She stated she saw her brother go inside, exit with a handgun, and "cock" it while walking toward the ex-boyfriend's vehicle.

The ex-boyfriend declined to pursue criminal charges against his former partner or her brother but did request a trespass warning be issued.
