Vienna Township trustee responds to fiscal officer's accusations
In Vienna Township fiscal officer Jason Miner's resignation letter, he voiced concerns over Trustee Phil Pegg claiming he'd been hostile to new ideas.
"I don't think so," Pegg said. "I do not believe that the current fiscal officer knows what occurs in a township," he said.
Miner also claimed Pegg should have admitted guilt for lack of oversight when former fiscal officer Linda McCulough was stealing funds from the township.
"People think that the fiscal fficer answers to the trustees. They do not," Pegg said. "There's very little that the trustees can do to force them to do their jobs even," he said.
Pegg was accused of "ethical violations," but Miner did not go into detail on those. Pegg believes it may have stemmed from an incident where he spoke with one of Miner's mentors, asking him to get Miner to do his job.
Pegg did apologize for mismanaging the fire department's EMS.
"There were things that occurred at the fire department with our EMS services during the time she (McCullough) was here that yes, the trustees should have known more. We knew there were some problems as far as the overtime was ridiculous over there," Pegg said. "I believe that the state which is currently doing a forensic audit will have a finding that the trustees mismanaged that department and I agree. We did, and I do apologize to the community for that," he said.
Pegg also pointed out what he claims were Miner's wrong doings, including late payments.
"Enbridge gas, the account he didn't pay it for three months. Trumbull County water and sewer, our account was delinquent six months. Fuel, gasoline and diesel at our local supplier delinquent three months," Pegg said.
Pegg adds Miner just didn't bother to communicate with Trustees that he wasn't paying the bills.
Pegg does believe, however, that the township is headed in a good direction.
