More officers graduate from Crisis Intervention Training program

YOUNGSTOWN More Valley police officers are being honored after completing the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board's Crisis Intervention Training (CIT).
Those who completed the program were honored with a graduation ceremony luncheon on Friday, October 24, at the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County.
Graduates at Friday's ceremony are among the second group to graduate in 2025, according to a news release.
The goal of CIT is to improve connections between law enforcement, mental health providers, hospital emergency services and individuals with mental illness, along with their families.
The 40-hour program is offered to local police officers by the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board in partnership with NAMI Mahoning Valley.
Those who participate are trained to identify mental health resources for those in crisis, along with ensuring officer and community safety when responding.
According to the release, all of the law enforcement departments in Mahoning County have at least one officer who has completed CIT through the efforts of the Board and NAMI Mahoning Valley.
