YOUNGSTOWN - Chaney High School will soon be receiving locally grown, nutrition-forward meals for students.

Chef Jim Warner will be joining the school's kitchen staff beginning Monday October 27 as part of the Ohio Farm to School program. Chef Warner will be helping current staff augment student meals to incorporate fresh, local foods.

The Ohio Farm to School program is part of a national United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) network that encourages and helps provide access to locally grown, nutritious meals for students. The program also focuses on educating children on the importance of local agriculture and farmers in their communities.

The head of Ohio's Department of Education School Nutrition division will also be present as Chef Warner is welcomed into the high school Monday.

Chef Warner comes to Chaney High School with "decades of experience as a private chef, executive chef in the hospitality industry, the food and nutrition Program Director at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and with the Nutrition Services Department for Upper Arlington Schools."

The Office of Nutrition says it will be making their mobile teaching kitchen available to deliver "hands-on cooking demonstrations" as well as professional development for food service staff.
